The Weekly Call for January 19th

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Weekly Call, your trusted source for high-quality commodity setups and trading strategies. Since October 2016, our approach has delivered an impressive 777% return, and we continue to share the insights and methodologies that drive these results with this post #429. This week, we’ll explore the latest market trends, actionable trade setups, and global economic factors influencing commodities like sugar, coffee, live cattle, and gold.

Equity Markets

  • United States:
    • S&P 500: The index closed at 4,585, up 1.2% for the week, as investors digested strong corporate earnings reports, particularly in the energy and technology sectors.
    • Nasdaq Composite: Advanced by 1.8% to 15,200, fueled by gains in AI and semiconductor stocks.
    • Dow Jones Industrial Average: Added 0.8%, led by industrial and financial sectors.
  • Europe:
    • European stocks rose modestly, with the Stoxx 600 gaining 0.5%. Optimism about easing inflation and a resilient economic outlook supported the market.
  • Asia:
    • Japan’s Nikkei 225 surged 1.5%, benefiting from a weaker yen and strong export data. China’s Shanghai Composite fell 0.7%, reflecting concerns over slowing growth despite government stimulus.

Commodities

  • Gold (GC): Gold prices climbed to $1,975 per ounce, up 0.7%, as investors sought safe-haven assets amid market uncertainty.
  • Crude Oil (CL): Oil settled at $81.50 per barrel, rising 2.5% for the week. OPEC+ production cuts and geopolitical tensions contributed to the rally.
  • Natural Gas (NG): Prices rose 5.8% to $4.15, driven by colder-than-expected weather and increased European demand.

Cryptocurrency

  • Bitcoin (BTC): Trading at $104,948, up 1.68% for the week. Bitcoin remains resilient, supported by increased institutional adoption and optimism about regulatory shifts.
  • Ethereum (ETH): At $3,217, down 1.61%, as it consolidates after recent gains in DeFi and layer-2 scaling activity.
  • Solana (SOL): Surged 14.47% to $273, driven by developer interest and increasing NFT activity.

Emerging Projects

  1. $TRUMP Coin: A new meme coin launched by President-elect Donald Trump, reaching a market valuation of over $6 billion within days. While it has generated significant buzz, concerns about insider ownership and transparency have emerged.
  2. ArcadeAI: A blockchain project focused on merging AI with decentralized gaming, gaining traction among VCs for its innovative platform.
  3. EcoToken (ECO): A project aimed at promoting sustainable energy practices through blockchain technology, attracting attention for its environmental focus.

Notable Developments

  1. U.S. CPI Data: December’s inflation came in at 3.2%, slightly below expectations, fueling optimism about a potential pause in Federal Reserve rate hikes.
  2. Short-Selling Firm Closure: Hindenburg Research announced its closure, marking a significant shift in market dynamics, especially for speculative stocks.
  3. MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin Strategy: The company now holds $47 billion in Bitcoin assets, underscoring its long-term bullish stance on the cryptocurrency.

Outlook for the Week Ahead

  • Earnings Season: Major reports from Microsoft, Tesla, and Netflix are expected to drive market sentiment. Investors will be watching for guidance amid economic uncertainty.
  • Central Bank Commentary: Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell is scheduled to speak, and any hints about monetary policy direction will be closely scrutinized.
  • Crypto Focus: With the launch of $TRUMP Coin and other projects, the crypto market remains dynamic. Institutional interest and regulatory developments will continue to influence market trends.
