Welcome to this week’s edition of The Weekly Call, your trusted source for high-quality commodity setups and trading strategies. Since October 2016, our approach has delivered an impressive 777% return, and we continue to share the insights and methodologies that drive these results with this post #533. This week, we’ll explore the latest market trends, actionable trade setups, and global economic factors influencing commodities like sugar, coffee, live cattle, and gold.
Market prices reflect Friday, November 6 closing levels, with weekly changes measured against October 30. Cryptocurrency prices reflect a November 7 evening snapshot.
Financial markets experienced another difficult week as investors reduced exposure to technology and AI-related companies. The S&P 500 declined 2.68%, the Nasdaq lost 3.37%, and the Dow fell 0.94%.
The semiconductor sector experienced particularly significant selling, declining more than 12% for the week. Investors remain concerned about AI infrastructure financing, technology valuations, and the returns on enormous capital spending commitments.
Meanwhile, October employment increased by 165,000 jobs, substantially exceeding expectations, and unemployment declined to 4.1%.
Oil prices fell sharply, potentially providing some relief from inflation concerns, while investors continued to assess the implications of the November 3 midterm elections.
The coming week will be critical for inflation expectations and AI infrastructure stocks, with October CPI, PPI, and several important corporate earnings reports.
U.S. Markets
S&P 500: 7,376.86 — down 2.68% for the week
The S&P 500 declined for another week despite Friday’s modest recovery. The index remains approximately 5.7% below its October record closing level.
I am watching 7,300 for support and 7,500–7,600 for recovery.
Nasdaq Composite: 24,579.42 — down 3.37%
Technology shares led the selling, with semiconductor companies particularly weak.
Friday’s 1.09% recovery was encouraging, but a sustained rebound will require stabilization in AI-related stocks and improving earnings confidence.
Dow Jones Industrial Average: 51,285.73 — down 0.94%
The Dow outperformed the Nasdaq as investors remained more cautious toward highly valued technology companies.
Russell 2000: 2,754.11 — down 2.05%
Small-cap stocks also weakened, reflecting continued concerns about financing costs and economic uncertainty.
10-Year Treasury Yield: approximately 4.86%
Yields declined during the week, although Friday’s strong employment report increased expectations that interest rates could remain elevated.
VIX: 25.64
Market volatility increased sharply, indicating greater investor concern about valuations, earnings, and monetary policy.
Global Markets
FTSE 100: 10,673.94 — down 0.52%
DAX: 25,820.36 — approximately unchanged
Nikkei 225: 57,434.77 — down 9.25%
Shanghai Composite: 3,649.18 — up 1.39%
Global markets were mixed, with Japanese equities experiencing especially severe selling amid technology-sector weakness.
European markets generally held up better, while Chinese equities recovered modestly.
The divergence reinforces the importance of diversification and selective investment.
Commodities Snapshot
Gold: $4,074.90 per ounce — December futures
Gold gained approximately 4.5% as investors increased defensive exposure.
Silver: $51.942 per ounce — December futures
Silver recovered approximately 5.4%, following substantial weakness during October.
Copper: $6.2375 per pound — December futures
Copper declined approximately 3.8%, reflecting concerns about industrial demand. Longer-term demand from electrical infrastructure and AI data centers remains attractive.
WTI Crude Oil: $90.83 per barrel — December futures
Brent Crude Oil: $98.32 per barrel — January 2027 futures
Oil declined sharply as expectations of reduced Middle Eastern tensions eased immediate supply concerns.
Lower oil prices could help moderate inflation, although geopolitical uncertainty remains.
Natural Gas: $3.454 per MMBtu — January 2027 futures
Natural gas gained approximately 2.5%, with winter weather expectations, storage levels, and LNG demand remaining important market influences.
Cryptocurrency Market
Cryptocurrency markets weakened as institutional ETF withdrawals accelerated and investors reduced speculative exposure.
| Cryptocurrency | Approximate Price | Seven-Day Change |
|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin (BTC) | $75,780 | -2.2% |
| Ethereum (ETH) | $2,237 | -0.7% |
| Solana (SOL) | $89.71 | -6.0% |
| XRP | $1.160 | -7.0% |

| Dogecoin (DOGE) | $0.0716 | -5.4% |
| Hyperliquid (HYPE) | $77.75 | -11.1% |
Bitcoin remained near $76,000, while most major altcoins experienced additional selling.
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $1.28 billion in net weekly outflows, while Ethereum ETFs lost approximately $365 million.
Institutional blockchain adoption continues, but investment flows indicate that investors remain cautious.
I prefer Bitcoin over most altcoins until institutional demand and broader market participation improve.
Key Market Drivers
1. AI infrastructure investment faces increasing scrutiny
The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index declined approximately 12.2% during the week.
Investors are increasingly questioning the financial returns from massive AI infrastructure commitments.
My preference remains companies providing essential equipment, electrical systems, cooling, power generation, and grid infrastructure with strong balance sheets and sustainable earnings.
2. Employment growth exceeded expectations
October payrolls increased by 165,000, while unemployment declined to 4.1%.
The stronger labor market supports economic growth but may encourage the Federal Reserve to maintain restrictive monetary policy.
3. Inflation remains the principal monetary policy concern
September PCE inflation remained above the Fed’s target.
October CPI and PPI reports will provide important insight into whether price pressures are beginning to moderate.
4. Oil prices declined sharply
WTI fell nearly 13%, while Brent declined more than 13%.
The reduction in energy costs could provide relief to consumers and businesses, although geopolitical risks remain.
5. Investors remain defensive
The VIX climbed to 25.64 as equities experienced another week of losses.
The selloff extended beyond technology into small caps and international markets, suggesting continued caution.
6. Midterm elections influence investment expectations
The November 3 election results introduced changing expectations for fiscal policy, regulation, and government spending.
Investors will assess how the new political balance could affect corporate taxation, energy policy, and financial markets.
7. Earnings and inflation reports become the next test
CoreWeave, Cisco, Applied Materials, and Constellation Energy report during the coming week.
Their results will provide important information about AI infrastructure financing, semiconductor demand, networking, and electricity markets.
Emerging Crypto Projects & Ecosystem News
Institutional cryptocurrency funds experienced substantial withdrawals
Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs recorded large net outflows as investors reduced exposure to digital assets.
Tokenized banking infrastructure continues developing
SoFi and other institutions are expanding blockchain-based deposits and payment capabilities.
Ripple expands institutional financial services
Ripple continues pursuing broader custody, settlement, and stablecoin applications through its financial institution relationships.
Tokenized financial assets remain a long-term opportunity
Banks and financial technology firms continue developing infrastructure for tokenized securities, payments, and settlement.
The strongest projects will be those with sustainable revenue, meaningful transaction activity, and institutional adoption.
Outlook for the Week Ahead
Monday, November 9
Earnings include Constellation Energy and Occidental Petroleum.
Tuesday, November 10
October Consumer Price Index — 8:30 a.m. Eastern.
CoreWeave earnings will also provide insight into AI infrastructure financing and demand.
Wednesday, November 11
Veterans Day. U.S. equity markets remain open, while the bond market observes the holiday.
Thursday, November 12
Weekly unemployment claims and existing-home sales.
Earnings include Cisco and Applied Materials.
Friday, November 13
October Producer Price Index — 8:30 a.m. Eastern.
The report will provide additional insight into inflation pressures affecting businesses.
What I Am Watching: Inflation, Treasury yields, and AI infrastructure earnings will be the principal market catalysts. Moderating inflation and stronger corporate guidance could support a recovery, while persistent price pressures or disappointing earnings could extend the correction.
